Xi'an----the Starting Point of the Silk Road

Xi'an has been a famous historical and cultural city of China for more than 3,100 years. Ever since 1126 B.C., it had served as the capital city for more than a dozen dynasties, among China's 7 ancient capitals and rivaling such ancient capitals as Rome, Athens and Cairo in the world. In the Tang Dynasty (618-917), the most prosperous dynasty in Chinese history, Chang'an used to be the biggest metropolis in the world.

Urumqi

The capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Urumqi has an urban population of about 1.09 million, which comprises 13 ethnic groups, including Uygurs, Kazaks, Huis, Hans, Mongolians, Kirgizs, Tatars, Tajiks, Xibes, Uzbeks, Manchus, Daurs, and Russians.

The Heavenly Lake

The Heavenly Lake, also called Yaochi (Jade Lake), locates on the northern slope of Mt. Tianshan, and covers an area of 4.9 square kilometers with a depth of 90 meters and an altitude of 1,980 meters in the midst of high mountains. The melted glaciers and snow provide it with pure, jade-blue water.
