Butterfly Spring
Beside the spring an ancient camphor tree spreads its boughs
over the pool. Each year during the fourth month of the lunar
calendar when the ancient tree gives forth fragrant white
and yellow flowers, thousands of butterflies flutter among
its branches. Then linking head with tail, they hang themselves
on the boughs like strings of colorful beads.
Cangshan Mountain
Also called Diancang, Cangshan Mountain thrusts up in the
fashion of a huge screen wall in the western part of Dali.
Malong, the main peak, soars 4,122 meters into the sky under
a snow mantle that never thaws.
Erhai Lake
In the shape of an er, meaning the ear in Chinese, Erhai
Lake in the east of Dali covers 250 square kilometers in area
at an elevation of 1,980 meters.
Dali Three Pagodas
Located at the foot of Yinglo Peak of Cangshan Mountain
northwest of Dali City, the three pagodas stand where the
ancient Chongsheng Monastery once stood; hence they are called
Chongsheng Three Pagodas.
